Photographic Artist, Painter, Poet

Cheryl Elich-Krumpelt is a photographic artist, painter and poet. Formerly, she created corporate identity and business to business marketing materials for major corporations and owned her own business licensing her artwork to manufacturers for  the application onto products. After hiatus from the creative world, in fall of 2013 Cheryl decided to direct her focus on photography.  In January of 2014, Cheryl entered her first juried photography competition in Los Angeles, CA. Cheryl's photograph was chosen to be included in the exhibition. Encouraged by this outcome, she concentrated on educating  herself about photography, in order to compose an image that tells the story while being beautiful and compelling. Throughout 2013 and 2014, Cheryl's paintings and photographs were juried into exhibitions and competitions including the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2014.  IPA,  a sister effort of the Lucie Awards, selected four of Cheryl's photographs from 27,000 entries from 104 counties for four Honorable Mentions. Recently, Cheryl was awarded a bronze from PIX3 Awards-Prix de la Photographie Paris as well as a Honorable Mention.

Additionally, Cheryl  combines all of her creative efforts to produce a new form of photography which she calls Artpoetography(TM).  Cheryl's photographs of her original paintings and poetry with her photographs of people, animals or objects. She layers these photographs to create depth of feeling and meaning.

Cheryl is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and resides in a suburb of Chicago with her husband, children, two horses and three dogs.

Artist Statement: In my work, I am committed to exploring light and how it effects the way in which an object or subject  is perceived by the eye and seen by the lens. I develop a relationship with my art and find myself feeling  color, light, shapes and pulling them out from the camera,  creating a unique representation of the subject. My  photography  not only shows what I see  and what "is", but also has an underling story .  Each one of my creations is my way of communicating to the observer. I am  inspired by the desire for my photography to have meaning and create constructive conversation about how we  live, who we are and what we do. I hope that my work will give others the motivation to explore their own creativity and have the courage to introduce their art to the world.
